You cannot make an omelette without breaking eggs. Something I’ve heard repeatedly. I much prefer the theoretical. I don’t much like the feeling of being the one scrambled. This feels like a fundamental rearrangement. The way we work, live, gather. School is different. Business is different. Some things are not going to survive.
I hope we don’t just get up and try to carry on as if it never happened. As if you have a trick ankle and fall you spring up hoping no one sees that you’ve fallen.
If crisis is danger at a point of juncture, what happens when we make the break? The artist knows that the way out is through. Any construction means that things have to be taken apart, separated, examined. Recombination in art and science is what makes things new. Examine, break, examine, let sit, examine, make new. Repeat.
